Favor Desserts

What it is:  You know us, we always love finding a new dessert place in Durham.  So, when a neighbor told us that Favor Desserts had the best cupcakes in town we knew we had to check them out.  Plus, they are located just off of Hwy. 55 near its intersection with Sedwick, so it was super-close for us South Durhamites.

Favor Desserts is a new cupcake and cake shop which is actually just across the street from the S. Durham Farmer's Market.  We headed over one morning to check them out and take some cupcakes home for my hungry boys.  We selected a red velvet and a chocolate for $3 a cupcake.  They looked absolutely delicious and my boys had a hard time waiting until we got home and ate our lunch to enjoy them.

The shop also offers cake by the slice as well as pound cakes and full size cakes.  I will be heading back to check out their absolutely decadent looking 5-flavor cake.

Favor Desserts is owned and run by Keijuane Hester who we met while we were in picking out our cupcakes.  We were directed to several articles about him on the walls of the restaurant (http://www.heraldsun.com/pages/full_story/push?article--From++crack+man+to+cake+man-%20&id=4123259).  Turns out, not only does he create absolutely delicious cupcakes, he has quite an inspirational life story which led him to this point.  He was actually incarcerated for several years and it was while there that he learned to bake and learned his fabulous carrot cake recipe.  Once out, he built his reputation by selling cake slices at barber shops and beauty parlors.  Eventually, word of mouth spread and his business grew and grew.  Through hard work and delicious creations he built up his business to where it is today.

What we liked:  We loved the delicious tasting cupcakes.  They also have a fabulous location near the S. Durham Farmers Market so you can combine a stop at the market with a stop at Favor Desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth.  Plus, we love to support a great local business.

What we would change:  There's not much we would change about this stop.  However, their websites mention that they can sell out, so you may want to pre-order if you would like a specific flavor of cake.
