Watts Grocery

I'm so glad to be able to write this post.  My husband and I love Watts Grocery, but we have had our doubts about the kid-friendliness of it.  However, we headed over for Sunday brunch and were pleasantly surprised at how well my kids could fit in and find something to eat.

What it is:  Watts Grocery serves fabulous fresh, local food near Duke University.  They are open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch, but we decided to check them out for Sunday brunch.  We showed up at 11 which is right when they opened.  This is the perfect time to arrive (or a little before 11) because there is already a line to get in, but the whole line can get in and be seated immediately with no waiting.  However, if you do have to wait, Watts Grocery does have this great little kids corner with books for the kids to look at while you're waiting for your table.

Watts Grocery has no kids menu.  That what part of our apprehension about heading there with our little picky eaters.  However, we like good food and exposing our kids to delicious quality, local ingredients.  Fortunately, even though Watts doesn't have a kids menu, they do have some more kid-friendly items for brunch.  They offer an entree of pancakes and sides including bacon, and biscuits and english muffins with homemade jam.  We split the pancakes and bacon between our boys and it was more than enough food.  The pancakes were absolutely delicious, flaky, and even had some fresh fruit inside.  While the kids were enjoying their food and wolfing it down we were able to enjoy delicious entrees.

What we liked: Watts Grocery is just one of those restaurants that serves really good fresh food.  For dinner, their prices are too high for a dinner with the kids.  However, their brunch prices were really reasonable.  Plus, they even list the farms where their food comes from at the top of their menu!  I liked how they did include some kid-friendly options and the pre-11am arrival time meant we didn't have to wait.

What we would change:  At other times, I feel like the restaurant might not be as kid-friendly with perhaps a longer wait for the kiddos and definitely higher prices.
