What it is: Kid to Kid is a store where you can buy and sell gently used kids clothes, toys, and baby gear. They don't function like a consignment store because you take in your items and they buy them outright from you instead of you having to wait until someone else buys them to get your money. Sounds like a great system! Plus, you get 20% more for your items if you take store credit instead of cash.
Now, we have a Kid to Kid opening up in South Durham. It just opened in the Renaissance Village shopping center in South Durham near Petco and Moonberries. While it is not open for shopping for a few more weeks, they are definitely open for buying your gently used items, and the sooner they fill up their store with goodies, the sooner they can open completely. Now that my boys are getting older, I have A TON of baby clothes and gear just sitting around my house taking up space. So, I brought in a bag today to see how much money I could get for it. They will let me know Monday and I will make sure to keep everyone posted on whether it seems like a good deal. Hey, I'm just happy to have the stuff out of the house and have made a bit of money off of it! They determine prices through Kid to Kid's computer system, so I will be interested to see what the amount is like.
If you have any baby clothes or gear you would like to get rid of, all you simply have to do is head over and drop it off. They are ready and waiting for you Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm.
What we liked: Now, we haven't experienced the whole process yet, so we will keep you posted, but so far, I love how I could just go in there and drop off my stuff. Then, they will give me my cash or store credit and I don't have to worry about the items anymore. Plus, unlike a consignment sale, you don't have to wait for a specific time of year to get your things out of your house. They are there anytime. Oh, and it's in a shopping center that has a lot of other places to occupy your kids. So, after you drop off your used gear you can stop at Sport Clips or Peek-a-do for a haircut, Petco for some animal viewing, Moonberries for some froyo, or Tomato Jakes for some pizza. To top it all off, there is a new fabulous donut shop called Rise that I've heard is opening up in a few weeks almost next door, and I can't wait for that!
What we would change: Well, right now, we are sad that they are not open for shopping yet, but give them a few weeks and you can head in to buy your kid gear for what their website advertises as up to 70% off retail price. I can't wait to check it out!

More info to come as I find out how much they offer me for my clothes and they open up for buying, but I wanted to keep everyone posted!!
I went by to check out the new store- love consignment! - and I was suprised at how snarky/rude the staff was to the customers bringing in things to sell. I was even more suprised to learn that the owner was there and one of the people I was thinking was most rude. They seemed to treat everyone as if they were doing them a favor by even looking at their things and were making fun of something someone had dropped off. They do have cute stuff and maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but I'm not sure I will go back...
