Giveaway-Summer Camp (of your choice) Gift Certificate!

While the weather is still cold, at time time of year, we're all thinking of summer and warmer days.  Hopefully the warmer weather will come soon, but until then we can content ourselves with picking out the perfect summer camp for our little ones.  But, how do we do that?

Remember, a couple of years ago, I told everyone about a great website that can help you find a starting point in your camp search.  DurhamSummerCamps.com lists lots of the areas great summer camps from sports to academic to musical camps tso you can pick ones your kiddos might be interested in.  Camps from some of our Durham favorites such as Bull City Craft, Sew Crafty, YMCA, Museum of Life and Science, and more are listed on the website.

So, the fabulous folks at DurhamSummerCamps.com are offering one of our lucky readers a $100 gift certificate to ANY of the camps on their list!  Can you believe it?  If you win, you can register for any one of the camps and they will just give you $100 towards your costs.  Awesome!

To enter, simply comment on this post on the blog or on facebook.  In your comment, please tell us about your favorite Durham summer camp, whether it's on their list or not.  You have until midnight on Wednesday February 19 at midnight to enter.  So, think summer, and happy entering!

As an extra bonus, DurhamSummerCamps.com is also sharing with us some of their insider information on some money saving tips in your summer camp quest:

1) Take full advantage of early-bird discounts by registering now. You usually just have to put a deposit at this time, but you can lock-in on the lower registration price.

2) Ask for financial assistance NOW instead of waiting until May or June when those funds are already allocated. See if they have a sliding scale or offer to pay what you can and simply ask for help with the balance.

3) Offer to volunteer or work at the camp in exchange for a free camper registration. You will be able to see some of the fun programs that you child engages in--without being too much of a "helicopter parent."

4) Ask the camp director if you might be able to get a free (or discounted) camp registration if you are able to get 2-3 other children to register. That way, your child will also have their friends attending the same session and have even more fun as well.

This would be awesome! We haven't been able to try out a summer camp yet so maybe this year we will get to! Thanks, Kim L.

My son is just old enough to participate in summer camp this year so I'm not sure which we like best.
But, we're looking forward to starting to explore a few!

My son loved YMCA kindercamp last summer. They swam every day! He will go again this year for a week or 2. We also want to try summer camp @ st. Stephens. We have a new baby coming the end of april so my first born will definitely need to spend some time out of the house having "big boy" fun!

Thank you for this post! I've been waiting for a good resource for finding those summer camp gems. I'm really hoping durhamsummercamps.com starts to beef up their list. There are so many camps in the Durham area that are not listed that I've heard of word of mouth such as Discovery Tech, Via Robotics, and offerings by the JCC. My personal favorite for my very active 7-year old is Piedmont Wildlife Center (www.piedmontwildlifecenter.org). This is a great spot for kids who love to be outdoors. There's nothing more entertaining than hosing your kid off after a day at Swamp Camp! Another fave is the Durham Arts Council (www.durhamarts.org). I look forward to reading all the comments made by your readers!

Schoolhouse of Wonder has been our favorite! Great folks who guide the kids while letting them explore. Their slogan of your kids being tired, happy, and dirty at the end of the day is right on!

Our friends loved the tennis camp at the Brightleaf Club house in Durham, provided by Beyond Barriers Tennis Academy. Last year you could sign up for a half-day or a full-day. The half-day focused on tennis instruction/games in the morning while the full-day allowed the children to have fun at the pool in the afternoon for a respite from the afternoon heat. Prices were very reasonable, and I am looking forward to signing our two up!
