Southpoint Vineyards

What it is: That's right, there's a new vineyard right here in Durham just a mile or two away from Southpoint Mall!  Located just off of Hwy. 751 right next to one of our other favorites, For Garden's Sake Nursery,  Southpoint Vineyards offer wine tastings as well as glasses and bottles for purchase.  They offer a variety of white and red wines.

What we liked:  After our visit on Saturday, we decided it provides several great opportunities for our Durham moms.  First, the vineyards open Friday-Sunday 12pm-5pm would be perfect for a moms' glass of wine.  I can definitely see heading out there before a dinner out with the girls at someplace near Southpoint like maybe The Melting Pot.  You can purchase a lovely glass of wine for $5 and sit out on their tables overlooking their lake and vines before you head to dinner.  In addition, I can actually see taking the kids in certain situations.  They do have a beautiful lake, grassy areas, and picnic tables.  So, it would be possible to head over and have a glass of wine while the kids play outdoors.

What we would change:  As can be expected, the tasting room is not particularly kid-friendly. (Why would a tasting room be?)  There are displays of bottles at toddler height.  So, if you're going for a tasting, you might want to leave the kids at home.  (Tasting are $5 including a souvenir glass.)
