What it is: We love heading out on Saturday mornings to farmer's markets. My husband and I love picking out delicious fresh foods to cook while my boys love to run around and look at smell and touch everything they can get their hands on. A few weeks ago we found another fun stop.
The Chapel Hill Farmer's Market is located in the parking lot of the University Mall on the back side of Southern Season. It runs all year on Saturday mornings from 8am to noon and from May-November on Tuesday afternoons as well.
As with other local farmer's markets all of the vendors have to be from local farms and all of the proceeds go straight back to them. I always love supporting local farms especially when I can teach the kiddos about local produce and other goods. While we were at the Chapel Hill Farmer's Market, we sniffed some flowers, taught the boys about some different kinds of produce, sampled some delicious cheese from Hillsborough Cheese Co, and finished it off with a sweet treat from one of our favorites-Big Bundts.
What we liked: We loved all of the produce and homemade crafts at the market. We also thought that the market was worth the stop just for the sweet treat from Big Bundts alone. In addition, since it's located right in the parking lot for Southern Season, you could stop by the farmer's market and pick out some delicious fresh goodies with the kiddos then head over to Southern Season to buy some exotic ingredients or pairing to go with the fresh food.
What we would change: It is a fairly small farmer's market so of course we would love more delicious treats to peruse. In addition, since the market is in a fairly busy farmer's market, keep an eye on your kiddos so they don't escape the confines of the market.
