Southern Rail Restaurant and Bar

What it is: We have seen this stop on numerous trips to Carrboro.  Sitting right next to Weaver Street Market is a restaurant made out of trains!  Now, this mom of little boys has been incredibly intrigued because what could be better than eating in a train?!

So, last weekend, we decided to finally stop by and check it out.  It really is a beautiful spot to eat.  You can eat inside one of several restored vintage train cars or on the surrounding steel and glass platform enclosure.  When we went, we chose the platform outside the train cars because we had a larger party that couldn't be accommodated in the actual trains.  That's ok, there is still a ton of train memorabilia to interest the kids.  The outside patios also look like beautiful places to sit.

When we went on Saturday, they had a brunch menu which included treats such as homemade biscuits and gravy, but their regular menu also looked delicious.  They had a kids menu with standard kids' fare such as pasta and chicken tenders.  The food was good, but not outstanding, but the atmosphere was really nice, and I imagine it would have been even more unique to eat inside the railroad cars.

What we liked:  We loved the atmosphere.  My boys love trains, and enjoyed looking at the vintage train cars, memorabilia, and pictures.

What we would change:  Parking can be a bit tricky because the lot is small and if you park in the next door lot at Weaver Street Market you WILL be towed.
