Rise Book Harvest Story Times

What it is:  Ever since I heard that it was moving in to S. Durham I loved Rise Biscuit and Donuts.  When they opened and I tried their biscuits and donuts I loved them even more.  They brought delicious non-chain breakfast to South Durham.  I love when I get a chance to sneak over and get a pimento cheese biscuit or a cronie.  They even made my favorite Texas-style kolaches a few times, but alas, I wasn't able to get one fast enough (maybe next time).  I love their creativity and how they are always inventing new delicious ideas.

In addition to all of their deliciousness, now, they are also helping others.  Normally, Rise closes at 2pm.  However, on Fridays, they have stayed open for donut sales on Fridays to support a great local charity, Book Harvest (an organization dedicated to putting books in the homes of Triangle children).  If you head on over to Rise between 3 and 5pm on Friday afternoons and bring a book to donate to Book Harvest, Rise will give you a free kids' donut!

The other great part is a representative from Book Harvest is also at Rise at that time and she will share and read books for the kiddos while they enjoy their donut.  By Friday afternoon I'm always tired and it's a great fun outing at the end of the week where you can feel good about doing good for others. Plus, the kids can eat their free donuts and you can buy one of the fancier fun flavors to munch on while you're there!  (I tried their pineapple basil last Friday.)

What we liked:  We love when local businesses take the time out to help others in their community!  Way to go Rise!  Oh, and they are also donating 25% of their proceeds from their upcoming pop-up pasta dinner to Book Harvest.  (Their making homemade pasta so it's going to be delicious.)  You can buy your tickets for this take-out dinner this Saturday at Rise.

What we would change:  Not much to change: Rise+Helping Others=Awesome!
