Durham Mom Businesses

**Keep reading, our fabulous June giveaway is hiding somewhere in this post, and it's a good one!  Read and comment on this post on the blog or on facebook by midnight Friday June 17th to enter.

We've been wanting to write this blog for a while.  Since starting Stir Crazy Moms, we have met all different kinds of Durham and Triangle area moms, stay-at-home moms, work-at-home moms, working moms, and part-time working moms.  In fact, the Stir Crazy Moms themselves are on all parts of that spectrum.  In talking to and getting to know Durham moms, we have met many that have their own businesses.  Started for many reasons, these businesses help provide needed income for the moms, give moms an outlet for talents and creativity, or fill a niche for a needed product or service in the Triangle.

We always love to support our local moms, and we love to hear about new great Durham businesses, so we thought it would be fun to highlight three Durham moms with their own businesses, how and why they got started, and what their businesses are.  From here, we want to create a directory for any area Durham moms so they can list their business and share it with others in the community (this goes for Dads too.)  So, read about these Durham moms and then let us know if you have also have a business whether it be small or large, on Etsy or in your home, whether your selling makeup, candles, or clothing please let us put your business in our directory which will be listed on our sidebar.  We hope this helps our Durham mom readers out a little!  Enjoy!  (Oh, and just wanted to let you know that we never receive any payment or compensation in anyway for a recommendation, feature, or listing on the blog.  We just give you the information because we like the places and things we find and want to share that info with other moms.)

Jennifer is a stay-at-home mom who became a stylist for Stella and Dot jewelry when she became a mom.  She wanted to still do something for herself.  She also loves the jewelry and loves that she can make her own hours and be at home with her child.  Stella and Dot sells adult jewelry as well as children's jewelry and is being worn by celebrities as well.  Another great thing is that much of the jewelry is priced under $50.  It is great to find something that makes you feel more fulfilled while fitting in to your life as a mother.

Jennifer has also been kind enough to provide a lovely piece of jewelry from Stella and Dot for our June giveaway!  Check out this link to see the beautiful owl pendant that she is offering.  Then comment on this post on the blog or on facebook by midnight June 17th to enter.

Andrea is a full-time working mom who also sells Arbonne products.  She discovered the products after hosting a party for another friend and checking out the products and receiving some of their diaper rash cream as a gift.  Andrea loved the quality of the products and got into the business.  Arbonne offers pure, safe, and botanical products such as skin care products as well as other products to enhance the body and mind.  Andrea enjoys the business because, like any other business she can get out of it what she puts into it.  It's always great when you can become involved with a business whose products you are passionate about and use yourself!

Vicki is a working mom who sells Thirty-One products.  Thirty-One was started as a company whose purpose was to support moms both in becoming successful business owners but also allowing them to shop on their terms.  They have everything from "bags to baskets to bibs".  Vicki especially highlights the way that Thirty One products her her and can help others become organized through offering products to organize virtually every aspect of their lives.  Vicki is also becoming even more entrepreneurial.  She is becoming a consultant for another company to help moms make healthier meals.  I hope she will keep us informed on that business endeavor as well!

What a great post! How satisfying to read about Durham moms, hard at work.

I am a Durham mother who is employed full time in communications and I also have a photography business on the side. Durham has been a wonderful town in which to start a business - it has the perfect energy, friendly people, and a creative spirit!

I love the promotion of local mom's businesses! I am also a Durham mom with a photography and graphic design business. While going into business was intimidating at first, the community has been so receptive and welcoming. Thanks for the opportunity to promote ourselves!
