There are three main rooms to explore at the Greensboro Children's Museum. The first room has the front part of an actual plane, complete with seats and a cockpit. There's also a play train with coal you can shovel and horns you can blow, etc. The next room has a real fire truck, race car, and police car for the kids to explore. There's also a section for camping with tents and sleeping bags and a small rope bridge. The final room as filled with fantastic sub-rooms where the kids could play for hours. There was a mail room with mail truck, a craft room with people there to help your kids with the crafts, a room with doctor's chairs and tools, a construction room with construction tools and blocks to build with, a theatre where you can dress up and perform, a reading corner, a huge, contained toddler and little ones play area where they can play safely, and a grocery store with play food, carts and registers. There is also an outdoor garden area we could explore, but it was a little hot on the day we went so we didn't check it out. We easily spent 4 hours there one morning and could have spent longer if the kids didn't have to nap.
What we liked: From the moment we arrived, we loved that you could park in a lot right next to the building (at least we could when we arrived on a weekday morning). It's nice that you can use your membership from Kidzu or Marbles to get in. In addition, we loved how much there was to explore in each room and we also loved the space and layout of each room. There was plenty of space to roam and we never felt crowded. The little ones room was great for the smaller ones to explore. In addition, when it was time for lunch, there were several tables in a section in the front where we could eat nearby to some vending machines and the restrooms. There was also a picnic table area outdoors where you could eat.
What we would change: They do charge $7 admission for everyone over one year of age which is a bit young to start charging, but we definitely understand because my one year old definitely got a lot out of the museum. In addition, since there were hard floors, it was a bit tricky for my little one to explore some of the rooms. However, the little one's area made up for those difficulites. It is also a bit far away from Durham, but the drive is easy, and it's well worth the trip.
