China Buffet

We're back!  After a great holiday spent in several different states with so many wonderful members of our family, I'm back and ready to get back to our regular Durham adventures!

What it is: One of our favorite things to do with our family is go out to eat.  This can be a little bit tricky when my husband and I want to try new and different things but my boys are really picky eaters.  However, a few weeks ago we managed to find a place that let my husband and I try some new foods, encourage our boys to try new things, and give them some comfort foods that they would definitely eat all at a reasonable price.

My kids had never been to a buffet before, so after looking at some reviews we decided to head out to China Buffet.  It's located off of 15-501 business next to Chuck E Cheese and an abandoned shopping center.  We didn't quite know what we were getting ourselves into heading back through that desolate parking lot to the restaurant, but once we got there we were pleasantly surprised.  The boys even loved the brightly painted entrance complete with golden lions they could pet.

Once we went in, it was big and we immediately got a seat.  Once we sat down we could take our plates up to the buffet and get some food.  That means that there was no waiting time for the kids...woo hoo!  We took the boys up to look at the buffet and get their plates first.  It was HUGE! They had five or six rows of food from American staples to Chinese delicacies and even an all you can eat sushi section.  We could get the boys lots of the food that they would eat like chicken nuggets, jello, fruit, veggies from the salad bar, crackers, rolls, etc.  Then, we could take them around and show them all the food that they weren't familiar with.  We could get little portions of several things we wanted them to try without the concern that we were wasting a bunch of money on food if the kiddos didn't like it.

Then, once the boys were engrossed in their food, one parent at a time could head up the buffet and take their time getting what they wanted.  We could also go up as many times as we wanted until we had our fill.  They also had several good dessert options for us all to choose from.

What we liked:  We loved the buffet aspect of the meal for picky fidgety toddlers.  Plus, the prices were all very reasonable for what we got with the adults buffet between $10 and $15 per person and the kids around $5 per kid.

What we would change: There's not much we would change about this stop.  Some of the food wasn't the healthiest, but because it was a buffet you could choose the healthier options to balance out your meal.  Oh, when you go, make sure you pay for a kids' plate for your child because it's not really permitted to have them just eat off of your plate.
