Papa Mojo's Roadhouse

Well, it's Superbowl Sunday and the game is about to start.  So, what better to write about then something decadent, delicious and definitely Louisiana inspired.

What it is: Last Sunday, we were fortunate enough to head to a South Durham restaurant that we had been hearing about for a LONG time.  Papa Mojos is located in the Greenwood Commons shopping center at the intersection of Hwy. 55 and Sedwick which is also home of the South Durham Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings.

We had heard of Papa Mojo's in relation to its Cajun food and fabulous live music, neither of which advertised it as a great place to take our kids.  However, we started hearing about their brunch from 11am-3pm on Sundays.  We started hearing about families heading there, so we headed on over to check it out.  We made reservations because we had a big group, but it looked like there was plenty of seating at 11am.  Their brunch menu is small, but they have delicious items like bananas foster pancakes complete with ice cream, New Orleans' famous Beignets, shrimp and grits, and omelettes with fantastic creole flavors like crawfish and andouille sausage.  While they had those great specialties and didn't have a kids' menu, they did have some great options for the kids including buttermilk pancakes, biscuits, fresh fruit and bacon.  They also had a bunch of great brunch cocktails for the grown-ups.

What we liked: The food was different and unique as well as tasty, plus, they had some simpler options for our picky kids.  In addition, the live music started at noon.  It wasn't overly loud and the kids enjoyed watching it.  Plus, they did make our kids day by giving them all Mardi Gras necklaces when they came in.

What we would change:  The did not have a kid specific menu for brunch, but there were several kid-friendly options to choose from.
