Spring has arrived in NC and summer is not far behind it. With it comes one of our family's favorite summertime activities-listening to great music outside on the lawns of Durham and Chapel Hill. The best part is that you can do it for free! Our two favorite spots are at the American Tobacco Campus and The Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill.
This year the American Tobacco Campus outdoor concert series is called Center Stage. It's first event is on May 17. This year they are changing things up a little bit and will not only have free music but will have food trucks and even a zip line for the kids. Head here for their complete calendar.
Fridays on the Front Porch at the Carolina Inn starts next week on Friday April 27 at 5pm. The complete calendar is here. You do have the option to get a great southern buffet dinner or a glass of wine at the Inn while you listen, but you can just pull up a corner of grass and watch your kids dance for free!
In our experience, it works best if you go with your family to bring a blanket, head out early and stake out a prime piece of real estate. Then you can just sit and enjoy the music. Dinner at one of the restaurants in the American Tobacco Campus or at the Carolina Inn can be nice if you do want to spend a little money.
Happy Free Friday and enjoy your weekend!
