Pelican's SnoBalls-Fayetteville Road

I don't know about you, but I love stopping by Pelican's SnoBalls on a hot summer day, or basically on any day at all.  However, since it's located way up in North Durham off of Roxboro Rd, us South Durham folks don't get up there as much as we would like.  Well, now, we have another option that's a little closer and has a fantastic view!

What it is: Yesterday, the new location of Pelican's SnoBalls opened up at the intersection of Fayetteville Rd. and the Durham freeway.  It's located in a drive-thru stand that has been a few different things including most recently a taco stand.  Now, it's been renovated and painted a beautiful shade of blue.

We stopped by yesterday because we heard on facebook that they were open for business.  This Pelican SnoBalls has one fabulous advantage-a drive-thru!  That's right, you don't even have to get out of the car to get your delicious treat.  It sounded great, but I was worried about how my almost 3 year old and almost 5 year old would do with an open container of snoball in the back seat.  However, the great people at Pelican's have thought of that.  When you order a certain size, they give you the next size up cup so that your snoball is easier to transport in the car.  I can safely say that my munchkins devoured their whole snoball in the backseat on the way home with no lid, and there was very little sticky on their seatbelts, so it is possible.

If you don't feel like driving with your treat, you can enjoy your pick of their 100 flavors at one of their benches or picnic tables that will be arriving shortly.  Oh, and did I mention they have an absolutely fabulous view of downtown Durham that you can enjoy during your stop.

We were actually their official first customers which was great fun!  The boys thought that was pretty exciting.  We will definitely be back to enjoy more treats in the future. With a drive straight up Fayetteville Rd. it's not too far from S. Durham!

What we liked:  The SnoBalls are delicious, as always, and with so many flavors to choose from, there's something for everyone.  The kiddie size is only $1.50, so it's an inexpensive treat, and the new drive-thru option makes it easy to stop by quickly.

What we would change: It's a little closer for us, but I keep hoping maybe they'll open one in S. Durham next!
