Backyard BBQ Pit

What it is: Our family loves to go out for some NC barbeque.  We love Q-Shack, Bullocks, The Pit, etc.  However, we haven't really found a place to go here in S. Durham.  Well, a few weekends ago, we found one.

Backyard BBQ Pit is a place for delicious home-cooked food.  They were even featured on TV show, Man vs. Food.  The building and atmosphere inside is very unassuming.  The menu was simple, but the food was delicious, and everything is homemade except their baked beans.  You could eat your food there, but we took ours to-go this time.  My boys loved the fact that there was a TV in the restaurant that was tuned to Tom and Jerry when we came in, so we definitely had peace while we were ordering.

Their dinner for pit-cooked BBQ is $6.99 for the dinner and your choice of two sides including cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and more.  You could also order hush puppies, smoked chicken, brisket, pork ribs, and more.  The star of the meal for the adults was definitely the barbeque which was just oozing with flavor.  The kids really enjoyed the hush puppies and mac and cheese.

What we liked:  We loved their delicious food and great prices.  The location in S. Durham is also nice and fills a needed niche.

What we would change:  They don't have a kids' menu, but that didn't bother us much because there were so many sides to choose from that the kids really enjoyed. Plus they are not open on Sundays of past 6 on Saturdays so keep that in mind when planning a visit.
