Throwback Thursday: Green Level Gourd Farm

While we're on the subject of fall fun...here's one of our favorite farms in the area.  We love this farm because it feels  much more personal than some of the other area farms, but there's still lots to do!

What it is: Green Level Gourd Farm is a local farm where you can go to relax, explore, and take a break from your day.   It was a little hard to find initially.  The entrance almost looked like a driveway but opened up to a wonderful farm when we came around the corner of the house.  However, once we arrived the combination of the wonderful friendly owners and the bounty of activities made for a delightful morning.

They had chickens and bunnies both with babies when we visited, in addition to goats, and ponies.  They also had a great playground with tunnels, a small play structure, some animals, kids tractors to ride, and assorted games for the kids to play with such as bowling.  There were picnic tables lining the playground for a nice lunch.  The kids sat at the tables to color paper horses with clothespin legs followed up by an engaging story time that even kept our two year-olds entertained.   Kids were treated to pony rides with no lines for however long they wanted, and we finished off the day with a hayride around the ground through a forest complete with many hidden stuffed animals and other sights to see.

As an extra bonus, we learned that they have pumpkins and lots of activities there around Halloween, so we'll definitely be heading back to check it out.  When you check it out on Halloween they also have a corn maze as well as the hayride and all of the other attractions.

What we liked: We loved the laid back homey feel of the place.  It felt like we were visiting some family friends.  We felt at home, had some great conversations, and were never rushed.  We loved that it was not very crowded.  It seemed like we had the whole place to ourselves.  The kids had plenty of time to explore everything at their own pace.  The hayride was completely appropriate for our young kids.  Older ones might find it a bit silly, but the little ones were entranced!

What we would change:  Although $4 per each person, adults and kids, might seem high, you get a lot for your money including pony rides, a hayride, storytime, a craft, visits with the animals, and time to play.  In fact, it is one of the cheaper farm visits we've found in the area.  The hours are pretty limited, so you would have to be careful to check the hours before you headed down.  In addition, you need to call to make an appointment to visit.
