Dickey's Barbeque Pit

*This post could have been included in one of our "Free Friday" posts, but we have so many free things to tell you about before summer rolls around we wanted to go ahead and pass this one along now.

What it is:  Dickey's is a BBQ restaurant located in the Indigo Corners shopping center near the intersection of I-40 and 15-501.  We've seen it there before, but never stopped by.  Then, we heard that kids eat free on Sundays.  That tempted us, so last Sunday we had to check it out.

Now, Dickey's is not your typical North Carolina BBQ restaurant.  It's a Texas-based barbeque chain, but don't count it out, North Carolinians.  As a Texas-based girl that moved to North Carolina later in life, I can safely say that both types of barbeque are delicious.

So, back to our Dickey's experience.  On the adult menu, you can pick your type of meat and then pick a sandwich or plate and a few sides.  I picked the beef brisket sandwich and my husband picked the sausage.  With them, we had hushpuppies and potato salad.  The boys got chicken nuggets, and their meal came with a side, a drink, and a roll.  Our meals all came with bright yellow plastic cups that we could take home. (The boys liked that part.) The food was good, not great.  But, it was very accessible for the kids and they really liked their meals.

What we liked:  It was a nice friendly atmosphere with good food.  We loved the fact that kids were free on Sundays, and they really liked their food.  It was a place where the family could go have a fun meal for a very affordable price.

What we would change: The adults weren't blown away by their food, and the kids' menu was limited for kiddos that don't like meat-they only had nuggets, or bbq sandwich or plate options for the kids.
