Russell Lacy Music

About a year ago one of our friends, Abby, was lucky enough to get a drum lesson for her son with Russell Lacy and report about it on Stir Crazy Moms (http://stircrazymomsofdurham.blogspot.com/2011/10/drum-lessons-with-russell-lacy.html).  He was great and worked really well with kids.  Well, recently, we found out that his music program is expanding, so we had to share this great Durham resource with you.

What it is: Russell Lacy Music has just opened in a new location just off of Duke St. near the intersection with Hwy. 147.  Now, he has joined forces with several other great music instructors to offer lessons in a wide variety of instruments as well as vocal lessons in a beautiful new space!  You can take your kids there to have piano lessons, drum lessons, guitar lessons, voice lessons, woodwind lessons, or basically any other instrument that you can think of.  The greatest part is the since there are multiple instructors that teach different instruments under one roof, you can head to the studio and all of your children can have a lesson at the same time while you wait out in the waiting room.

One of the best parts of Russell's new music program is that it's all organized by Russell himself.  That means that you only have to call or e-mail him to set up lessons with any of the instructors.  So, it's less work for you and less confusing.  In addition, there aren't very many studios like this in Durham, so now it's great to have a place for Durham kids to develop their musical skills in a place created specifically for that purpose.

My little family took a little trip down to Russell's new music studio the other day.  We already knew what a fabulous teacher he was, but we wanted to check out the new space.  It was beautiful.  All of the rooms including the waiting room and four lesson rooms were clean, simply decorated, and perfect places to learn some music.  One of the rooms contained a piano for piano lessons, another several different kinds of drums, and others were set up to be used with any variety of instruments that you bring in.  My boys can't wait until they get old enough to come back and start learning to express their musical side!  (Oh, and Russell was also very patient with my little energetic munchkins who were so excited to see all the instruments.)

What we liked: We loved that all of these musical resources are now together in one place and organized by one person.  This makes it much simpler for a busy parent.  In addition, the space is beautiful.  Russell is a great teacher as we have learned before, and he has teamed up with other great musicians and instructors to make a great team.

What we would change:  The only negative point for us is that Russell recommends starting musical lessons like this when your child enters kindergarten or later in order to really get the most out of the instruction.  Therefore, we will have to wait a few years before we can join in the fun!
